28 Day Self Love Challenge

Self-love is not just a concept or idea. It is a very real, concrete thing. Ever since we were born, women are taught if they aren’t constantly working hard or taking care of others, they are SELFISH.

What we aren’t taught is, if we don’t take care of ourselves and love ourselves first, we can’t take care of others without becoming sacrificial lambs.

If you don’t work on yourself and take the time for rest, relaxation, and introspection, you will become so burnt out and depleted that you won’t be able to take care of anyone else or even yourself.

Here at Hawaiian Healing Skin Care, we don't just care about your skincare; we truly care about YOU!  We want you to thrive and not just survive.  So we've put together a list of 28 ways to show self-love. One small thing to do for yourself each day over the course of the next 28 days.

Our hope is this list becomes a habit, your list grows, and you do numerous things for yourself each day.  But you have to start somewhere, so here goes:

DAY 1:  BREATHE
Stop, breathe in deep from your belly for the count of three and exhale. Do this three times. We are in such a rush each day, we forget to breathe properly. Our energy becomes stagnate and our bodies become tense. Pause today and every day to take time to breathe.

DAY 2: WAKE UP EARLY TO SEE THE SUNRISE
We know, in most places it’s a cold time of year. But what better way to start your day than to feel the brisk air and then the touch of warmth from the sun as it rises to greet you. The waking of the world at this time of day is magical. Start your Friday with some magic.

DAY 3:  TAKE A GUILT-FREE NAP
There is nothing better to recharge your spirit than stealing away for a nice afternoon nap. Shut off your phone, close the curtains, and snuggle under the covers for a sweet siesta. You deserve it.

DAY 4: TURN OFF YOUR PHONE
Just for an hour. Go ahead… the world won't stop.  Turn off your phone and relax.

DAY 5:  BUY YOURSELF FLOWERS
Stop at the store on your way home and buy that bouquet of flowers you always admired. Pull out your favorite vase when you get home, add a penny to the bottom (yes, this works to keep the flowers fresh), and taaadaaa...You’ll have a little reminder for the rest of the week of just how special you are.

DAY 6:  DRINK YOUR WATER
Staying hydrated is super important for everything in your body.  It helps expel toxins, it keeps you looking younger, it makes everything in your body work better and the benefits are numerous.

DAY 7: WATCH A TED-TALK
Take 5–15 minutes and watch one of these amazing videos. Each speaker brings something different for you to think about or implement in your life. Browse and find a topic that resonates with you and sit back and enjoy.

DAY 8: CHANGE YOUR SCREENSAVER
Find a photo or quote to carry you through the month of February. Pick something that makes you smile or pumps you up every time you turn on your phone.

DAY 9:  TIDY YOUR DESK
Go ahead, take 5-10 minutes to tidy things up, organize and clear off your work area. Then on Monday, when you are back at it, you have a relaxing space to start the week. BAM!

DAY 10:  MANI/PEDI DAY
Find a neighborhood nail salon and go get that mani/pedi you’ve been craving.  We know it’s winter and no one sees your feet... but YOU do!  And getting pampered and taken care of is what self-love is all about. If they offer you a glass of wine… go for it!

DAY 11:  SPEND SOME TIME IN NATURE
Nature is the perfect place to clear your mind and remind you of balance and serenity. This is the perfect way to recenter and fill your lungs with fresh air.

DAY 12:  SPEND 5 EXTRA MINUTES IN BED
But don’t just lay there! Be totally in the moment. Feel the sheet on your skin, sink into the warmth of the covers and soak up all the snuggly goodness.

DAY 13:  FINISH THAT BOOK
Go ahead. Shut the door. Shut out the world and finish that book you’ve been meaning to finish. It’s time!

DAY 14:  HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!  LOVE YOU!
Ok, look in the mirror and say 5 things you love about yourself to yourself, and end it with looking at yourself right in the eye and say…“I LOVE YOU!  I really love all of you." I still get misty-eyed when I do this…why is that?

DAY 15:  THROWBACK DAY
Play a song from your high school days that touched your heart, made you smile or was your favorite to sing along.

DAY 16:  TAKE A BUBBLE BATH OR STEAM SHOWER
Fill the tub, lock the bathroom door, light some candles, and take 20 minutes to soak in a hot Epsom salt and bubble bath. The salts help ease aches and help in detoxing your body. If you don’t like baths - take a hot, steaming shower. It opens the pores and relaxes your muscles. Both help to ease the stress of the week.

DAY 17:  TRY SOMETHING NEW
Find a new restaurant and try something on the menu you have never had before. It can be a meal or a different coffee or tea which you always wanted to try but never have. Get outta your comfort zone, girl!!

DAY 18:  GET MOVING
Take the day of rest and turn it upside down. Hit the gym, or try meditating or venture out to a yoga class. There are so many options with yoga today... goat yoga, rock yoga, drinking yoga, hot yoga or what this girl does, DDP YOGA (Google it).  Whatever your desire - get moving and get your blood pumping.

DAY 19:  EAT BREAKFAST
We know... “you don’t have time.” Nonsense. Get up a little earlier, make yourself a specialized juice or smoothie. Fruit is also an easy option. Your body needs fuel after being without food for eight or more hours.

DAY 20:  VOLUNTEER
Find a charity or nonprofit that needs help and go spend an hour or two giving back. Giving out food and blankets to the homeless, working in a soup kitchen, helping out at an animal shelter, or, if you have certain talents, using those talents to help an organization grow. The benefits are too numerous to list here. Trust me, doing this helps put things in perspective when you lend a hand.

DAY 21:  LIST YOUR GRATITUDE'S
At the end of the day, write down five things you are grateful for. Gratitude is magical. It makes what you have enough and it attracts more blessings into your life. This is something that can be every day. Just give it a try and see what happens and how it makes you feel.

DAY 22:   PAINT YOUR HEART
Go to one of the paint classes that are popping up everywhere. Meet new people or invite a couple of friends. Put your mark on the world by painting what you see.  It doesn’t have to be anything except what you want it to be...an expression of you. That right there is a masterpiece!

DAY 23:  MOVIE NIGHT
Grab your favorite snack and either watch one of your trusted favorites or indulge yourself and finally rent that movie you missed when it was in the theater.

DAY 24:  SLEEP NAKED
Sleeping naked has a slew of health benefits, including helping you to lose weight. The quality sleep you'll enjoy also increases the release of growth hormone and melatonin, both of which have anti-aging benefits.

DAY 25: WALKING OUTSIDE BAREFOOT
I know, it’s freaking freezing outside. But you don’t have to do this long to reap the benefits. Just for a few minutes, make contact with the earth without any shoes. Walking with your feet directly touching the soil allows your body to absorb negative electrons through the Earth, which helps to stabilize daily cortisol rhythm and create a balanced internal bio-electrical environment. It also reduces pain and inflammation, improves your sleep, boosts your immune system and much more.

DAY 26:  DANCE BREAK
The kids are screaming, the hubby is stressed, and the dog just peed on the floor. Stop. Announce it’s Dance Break time, crank up your favorite tune, and take 2-4 minutes and dance that crap away! You’ll feel energized, light, less stressed and ready to continue on.

DAY 27:  TAKE OUT TUESDAY
Stop by your favorite restaurant and order to-go or call delivery. You deserve a break today, so why not enjoy a good meal at home without having to do all the work. YUM!

DAY 28:  "THE WAIT"
The Wait is all about trusting and having faith that eventually you will end up where you need to be, with who you are meant to be with and doing what you should be doing.
